  1. What are your favourite foods?

  3. What is the strangest food you have eaten?

  4. What are the most common foods in your home country, for each meal of the day?

  5. What are good manners when eating in your country? (see Chart used in Qld schools from 1898 until 1960s!)

  6. Do you have any “comfort foods”, and when do you eat them?

  7. What is different about food in Australia?

  8. What food do you miss the most? Describe its appearance and taste.

  9. Do you like cooking? How often do you cook at the moment? How often did you cook in your home country?

  10. Do you have take-away very often? What do you get? What is your favourite take-away food?

  11. Do you prefer to “eat out” or eat at home? Why?

  12. Which is the best restaurant you’ve been to here? What did you eat?

  13. Do you need to “tip” at restaurants in your country? How much is expected?

  14. Is it common to invite people for a meal at your home in your culture?

  15. How important do you think it is to eat healthily? What is healthy food?

  16. Have you ever been on a special diet? How was it and did it work?

  17. What is your favourite food in Australia (that you don’t normally eat in your home country)?

  18. Does your country have any meals or treats that are identified with special occasions? (eg chocolate bunnies at Easter; turkey for Thanksgiving in America) Explain the meaning of one of the occasions, and what food is involved.

  19. Have your tastes changed since you were younger? What are some things that have changed?

  20. If you could eat anything for dinner tonight, what would it be and why?
